SESSILE CILIATES

  • length approx. 220 – 420 µm
  • usually one longer and one shorter individual live together in a transparent lorica
  • individuals are trumpet-shaped
  • when irritated they retreat into the lorica

 

IN ACTIVATED SLUDGE AND BIOFILMS:

  • tolerant of ammonium loads and high ammonium concentrations
  • relatively tolerant of oxygen concentration
