SESSILE CILIATES

  • the single zooid is 80 – 140 µm long
  • Carchesium forms colonies up to 2 mm in size
  • key feature: “interrupted” muscle in the stalk, i.e. individual zooids can contract independently of each other

  • Carchesium colonies indicate good and stable conditions
