Creeping ciliates
- 25 – 50 µm
- roundish body with convex upper side, in A. lynceus smooth, in A. cicada with 6 dorsal ridges and in A. turrita with spike-like point
- cilia grown together to form “walking” cilia
In activated sludge and biofilms:
- more common with increasing sludge age
- A. lynceus and A. turrita occur with good oxygen supply, A. cicada also with oxygen concentration < 1 mg/l
