Type 0092

Widespread in municipal plant in summer months as Microthrix parvicella successor – tends to grow within flakes.

Morphology:

Filament position: within flakes
Branching: none
Movement: none
Growth habit: straight / slightly curved
Aufwuchs: absent
Constrictions: absent
Sheath: none
Transverse walls: hard to identify
Cell form: rectangular
Length of filaments: < 200 µm
Filament diameter: 0.8 – 1.0 µm

Factors promoting growth:

  • sludge load < 0.10 kg BSB5/ kg TS * d
  • industrial wastewater (dairies, meat and vegetable processing)
  • temperatures > 15°C
  • raw sewage without preliminary sedimentation

Countermeasures:

  • often not necessary as grows within flake and barely index-relevant
  • increasing the sludge load
  • addition of iron-aluminium sulphate compound products (e.g. FERRASAL, FERRACLAR (III) or Utopur)
